WHAT WE DO. WHY WE DO IT.

Our work seeks to connect with diverse institutional partners to transform higher education.

We collaborate with diverse partners in higher education, whose work on equity research and new models of education aligns with our efforts. Our efforts focus on using data and research to inform the nexus of equity and innovation in higher education. With our partners we seek to build communities of practice through hosting convenings, networking, and collaborative scholarship.

MORE ON OUR PROJECTS.

AMERICAN TALENT INITIATIVE (ATI)

Georgetown is a proud founding member of ATI. The American Talent Initiative (ATI) coalition is comprised of institutions committed to a sustained collective effort to dramatically increase educational opportunity for talented low- and moderate-income students. Member institutions have demonstrated success in degree attainment (with graduation rates at or above 70% in six years); of the 270 eligible institutions nationally, over 100 have already joined ATI. Collectively, the ATI coalition takes responsibility for a goal of enrolling an additional 50,000 qualified low- and moderate-income students at their schools by 2025. ATI is a Bloomberg Philanthropies-supported collaboration between the Aspen Institute’s College Excellence Program and Ithaka S+R.

SUMMER INSTITUTE ON EQUITY, CURRICULUM AND INNOVATION

The Summer Institute provides a unique opportunity for small institutional teams to engage in scaffolded, constructive planning to advance their institutional goals around educational equity, in the context of innovations in academic policies, curricula and pedagogies.

The Institute is designed for institutions of higher education who have a demonstrated track record of success graduating students from diverse backgrounds. Specifically, this includes institutions who are members of the American Talent Initiative, eligible to become members, or are close to the criteria for eligibility.

Over several days, institutional teams – drawn from diverse units on their campus – will have the opportunity to work on their own project goals, supported by resource experts and mentors, as well as participate in communities of practice with other institutions around core themes and institutional capacities. This is a working institute where institutions are invited to come with a goal and leave with a plan. Documentation of the work – both at the Institute and back home on campuses – will provide opportunities for continued support of campus efforts and the potential to share practices and findings with a broader audience in higher education.

This is joint project with The Designing the Future(s) Initiative, in partnership with The University of Texas at Austin and the American Talent Initiative.

COLLEGIATE LEADERS IN INCREASED MOBILITY (CLIMB)

Collegiate Leaders in Increased MoBility (CLIMB) seeks to better understand universities as drivers of social mobility. Through CLIMB, universities partner with the Equality of Opportunity Project, making use of the Chetty and Friedman data set and data access. Through our partnership, Georgetown seeks to better understand how measures of income/wealth intersect with student access to and equality of opportunity at the University. Our insights from this partnership will enable us to see the long-term impact of student support, academic programs and broader educational experiences. We also hope to contribute to the national conversation on measures of impact and ROI from transformative educational experiences.
